We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back, or to our Little Schoolhouse community. We have a fun and exciting school year planned! Here is some information about the school day:

THE WEEKLY ACTIVITIES SHEET

You will receive a weekly activities and curriculum sheet on Mondays outlining the activities your child will be involved in during the week. We will email this as well as send the sheet in your child’s backpack.

In addition to our usual daily schedule, the special activity for each day is as follows:

  • Monday – Sports

  • Tuesday – Science

  • Wednesday – Music

  • Thursday – Sports

  • Friday – Cooking

SNACK

A nutritious snack and drink is provided by the school and is served family-style, mid-morning. Please speak to the teachers if you would like to provide the class with snack. It is a great way for parents to volunteer and we can offer many suggestions.

LUNCH

Lunch is at 12:00 noon.  Please pack a healthy lunch and drink for your child in an insulated lunch pack.  We are able to do a simple “warm-up” in the microwave oven for pasta and rice dishes.

SHOW & TELL

Every Friday will be Show & Tell during Morning Meeting.  Children can bring in something from home that begins with the letter-of-the-week. See the weekly curriculum page for the letter-of-the-week.

SPORTS

Sports lessons are on Monday and Thursday with Ms. Helen.  Athletic (tennis) shoes should be worn every day to school for safety and developing gross motor coordination.

MUSIC

Music with Mr. Larry is on Wednesday mornings.

PERSONAL SUPPLIES

Parents of children who are not fully independent in the bathroom must provide a reasonable quantity of pull-ups and wipes to be kept at school. Please remember to re-stock the supply regularly.  Keep in mind that the school policy requires that your child’s pull-up be changed as many as three times each morning depending on their daily functions.

Be sure to send a change of clothes including a school shirt, pants, and underwear/pull-ups to be kept at school in their drawer. Please label all of your child’s clothing, bags, and belongings.

We thank you for assisting our hygienic efforts by providing a box of tissues, container of wipes, hand sanitizer and mosquito repellant to be used by the children at school. Restocking each term is necessary and appreciated.

ARRIVING AT SCHOOL

Arrival at school each morning involves greeting and occasional communication with teachers. We want to promote a smooth transition into the school day by encouraging parents to make the morning drop-off brief and cheerful.

School is open at 8:00 a.m. for early drop-off. Most children arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. At least twenty minutes are recommended for settling in prior to the start of the day.

PICK UP FROM SCHOOL

The prompt midday collection time is 12:30 p.m. The prompt full day collection time is 3:00pm. Your children and their teachers appreciate the effort to be on time so that precious cognitive functioning hours are maximised and unnecessary interruptions are avoided.

Friday dismissal is at 12:30 p.m. for all students. Staff curriculum meetings take place on Friday afternoons.

As always, please do not hesitate to speak with us if you have any questions or concerns. The phone number at school is 325-3795 or please email Ms. Kara at schoolhousenassau@gmail.com

We are looking forward to getting to know you and your child this year.

Sincerely yours,

Welcome back to school Shark, Swordfish and Lionfish students!  We trust you are ready to begin a year that will be exciting and fun. Parental involvement is encouraged throughout the year to include volunteering to read, assisting with field trips, cooking, and art projects.  Ask about the many ways that you can volunteer.

COMMUNICATION BOOK

Your child will bring home a PARENT-TEACHER COMMUNICATION BOOK.  It should come to school every day.  We will write about activities happening at school and other reminders. You should check the book daily and sign it. Likewise, the book is for you to write in as well.

PUNCTUALITY

Please be reminded that Morning Meeting starts at 8:50 a.m. and at least 10 minutes are recommended for settling in prior to the start of the day.

PICK UP TIME

The prompt midday collection time is 12:30 p.m. Your children and their teachers appreciate the effort to be on time so that precious cognitive functioning hours are maximised, unnecessary inter-ruptions are prevented, and so the teachers can move on to other family obligations after the school day.

WHAT TO BRING

Every day, your child will need to bring to school:

• Back Pack—large enough to hold artwork and a lunch box.

• Lunch Box—with a nutritious morning snack, drinks, and a healthy lunch.

Friday dismissal is at 12:30 p.m. for all students. Teachers are engaged in Curriculum Meetings each Friday afternoon.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES & DAYS

  • The SPORTS lesson will be on Tuesday each week. Athletic (tennis) shoes are recommended for all day. Girls should wear shorts.

  • The MUSIC lesson will be weekly, on Wednesday.

  • NEWSTIME presentations will begin next week. See the schedule to note your child’s dates.

  • SHOW & TELL is each week on Friday. The children need to remember the topic or type of item in an effort to be responsible.

  • COOKING & STORYTIME sign-up sheets are on the bulletin board to the left as you enter the door.  It is a really fun way for parents to participate at school.

  • HOMEWORK will be given in a few weeks. The assignments will be written in the Parent-Teacher Communication Book. Please sign it upon completion.

  • LIBRARY time will be weekly, on Tuesday. Your child will choose a book from our shelves to enjoy at home. Fostering respons-ibility, the book is to be returned the following Tuesday.

OFF DAYS

If your child will be missing any school please let us know in advance so that we can prepare some work to take away that has been taught previously.  When your child returns to school he will be expected to complete missed work at home.  Some tutoring may be needed to cover the missed concepts.

CLOTHES

Please send a change of clothes to be kept at school to include a school shirt, pants, and underwear. Remember to label all clothes, bags, and belongings. Be sure to include a toothbrush and small toothpaste to keep at school.

HYGIENIC ITEMS

We thank you for assisting and supporting our hygienic efforts by providing a box of tissues, container of wipes, and hand sanitizer to be used by the children at school. Restocking of these items, with each new term, is appreciated.

As always, we make ourselves available if you have any questions or concerns. The phone number at school is 325-3795, and you can email Ms. Kara at schoolhousenassau@gmail.com
